2013 Word of the Year - balance

Notice anything different?  Probably not because you're all new here!  But we went through a little business re-design the past few months.  This blog used to be called "aboutthetown" and I started it a little over a year ago while taking Jeanne Oliver's class "Building a Creatively Made Business" (sigh. fabulous online class!)  But "About the Town" didn't really capture what my handmade business is about.

Well wait, let's back up here.  Business...what is that?  I've been crafty since forever and over the past couple of years I've gone to selling my wares in craft shows and a few boutiques.  I still feel a bit unsure of myself when I say "I own a handmade business" because the next question to follow would be "what do you make?"  All sorts of things.  Primarily soy candles, which I've been doing for a few years now, but mainly custom typography signs.

As I was making these signs and getting orders from friends to make custom signs for their special events, my confidence went up a titch and I decided to be "serious" and get on the ball with what is all involved in a handmade business.  That's where Jeanne's class came in and this blog began.  Eventually I had a good stash of custom signs to do a large flea market and become a vendor in a couple local shops.  But as I created more, I wrote less, or as I worked on the business side of things, I created less.

So join me in 2013 in my "official" launch of Studio 4:13 and my quest for... balance!

Holiday 2012 How To Order and a Special Note

Happy Holidays!  I know we're just getting the costumes out for Halloween, but it's never too early to start your holiday shopping!  What a perfect gift for a friend or loved one (and yourself!) of a one-of-a-kind custom typography sign from Studio 4:13.  Orders finalized in November will be delivered in time for Christmas gift-giving!

Special Note: Currently our business website and Etsy storefront are undergoing a rehaul (look for a new launch in 2013!), so orders are occurring the old-fashioned way - by e-mail/phone.  Because all of our signs are handmade when you order, your sign is unique for you.  Please visit my Facebook page for sample photos of some of our creations, or peruse past posts on our site here.

How To Order: Send the following in an e-mail to [email protected].  You will receive a response to confirm reciept of your request, discuss details of your custom order and a price quote.  Please note orders must be received and confirmed by customer and Studio 4:13 by November 30th to receive by December 21st. For orders picked up at one of the shop locations below order can be paid at pick-up.  Orders from afar, I will set up a custom listing for you in my Etsy shop.

• Contact Name, Phone Number, E-mail
• Preferred Delivery Location (Tags in Hudson, Restore-n-Restyle in Baldwin, or ship to contact via USPS)
• Describe your custom sign (colors, words/message/theme, size, and any other details to make your order special)

All signs are made on 1/2" pine board unless noted (we do create signage on tongue-and-groove board and the occassional old barn wood find).  Sign will come with a picture hanger.
